Threaded Comment Wordpress Plugins

Brians Threaded Comment Wordpress PluginsI have just added the brians' threaded comment plugins (formerly nested comment plugins) here in this blog. I've planned to upload this nice plugins long ago but still couldn't find the right time to do so or just forgot once I connect to the internet. This plugins is nice in the sense it'll make disscussion more lively: the third commentator, for example, who wants to comment on the first comment can just easily click the "reply this comment" in the comment #1 precisely like the way mailing list works.

Unfortunately, just like any other wordpress plugins, it can only be done in a self-hosted blog., the free blog services owned by Automattic--the wordpress blogging platform company--has yet to include it into its by-default build up.

If you're interested to install this plugins, you can download it here. And from the installation manual you'd find how to easily install it. Here's the excerpt:

1) Before beginning, make backup copies of [top]/wp-content/themes/[yourtheme]/comments.php
2) Copy briansthreadedcomments.php to [top]/wp-content/plugins/
3) Copy comments.php to [top]/wp-content/theme/[yourtheme]/
4) Activate brians threaded comments from the plugin page.

That should be it.

Update: Howtspoter fixed some bugs based on various bug-fixed sources and integrated them into one file with pretty video tutorial as well. Also, if you use wordpress 2.5 or above you can put gravatars in Brian threaded comment box by adding these codes.

Steve Jobs and God

Steve Jobs and GodWhat do Steve Jobs and God have in common? Jeremy Wagstaff has this to say (emphasis mine):

What I’m not interested in:
heavily corporate technology or press releases that would only make sense to someone inside the industry
any press release about some new appointment, unless his name is Steve Jobs or God (or both).

An interesting way (good sense of humor too) to express one's admiration to the ever innovating techno-geek Steve Jobs. One wonders, however, why we rarely find such diehardism to the inventor of personal computer called Bill Gates? Is the latter such a unpleasant personality so much so that people's dislikeness hinder any admiration to his great achiement?

Mediocrity that Resists Change

Mediocrity that Resists Change IndonesiaSeth Godin as usual has an easy expression for something we feel it floating in mind but is a bit hard to say:

Remarkable visions and genuine insight are always met with resistance. And when you start to make progress, your efforts are met with even more resistance. Products, services, career paths... whatever it is, the forces for mediocrity will align to stop you, forgiving no errors and never backing down until it's over.

Good thought for those who wants change (towards the better) but don't have a gut to face resistance and challenge. A leader always opens a new path in which an ordinary passer-by never goes through. Naturally, mediocre forces just avoid to take any potential risk with uncertain result. The few, the leader, will take that path. The result may be unclear. The vision is.

[2]Credit for this hack goes to Gives Away 3 GB Free Space Gives Away 3 GB Free SpaceIt seems that want to leave a landmark in the history and set the trend of free blogging service in the same way did for the free email space capacity by giving away a three-gigabytes space to enable you to upload as much as any rich files you could imagine. In comparison to other free blog providers, wordpress describes it simply:

To get the same amount of space at our nearest competitor, Typepad, you’d pay at least $300 a year. Blogger only gives you 1GB. We’re doing the same thing for free. is certainly the best free blogging platform even with its previous 50 mb, for it has got many advantages than its competitor such as / blogspot and typepad in terms of search engine friendliness. Its category and tag system enables a newbie blogger to promote one's blog faster known at least in the community.

The shortcoming of wordpress, compared to / blogspot is certainly this: it has disabled the javascript function making it impossible for its users to put anything javascript the most important being making bloggers unable to put AdSense or/anything that enable bloggers to monetize their blogs. I think this point alone that makes many bloggers still stick around / blogspot. I've read sometime back Matt Mullenweg's, wordpress founder, rationale on this: to guard security from malicious spammer and hacker.

Granted. But how about enabling the javascript only in the sidebar, in the widget? Is it still problem to their security? Something Matt and the team need to work out. Unless this happens, bloggers who uses / blogspot for the same reasons will not be tempted to migrate and therefore the three-gb wink gesture will not have much impact. Likewise, if this--javascript-enable-- occurs, we'd see the mass exodus from / blogspot to wordpress.

Giving away a three-gb free space is absolutely a very generous gesture. To be a bit more generous by enabling the javascript, at least in the sidebar / widget, won't hurt. There are times when "small" acts of generosity has a greater impact. This, I am quite sure, is one of those.

Free New Blogger Templates

Free New Blogger blogspot TemplatesWordpress blogging platform is arguably the most widely used free blog software right now for self-hosted blog. Its openness to outside plugins makes it getting popularity among the coders as well., the free blog provider owned by Wordpress founder, Matt Mullenweg, gains popularity in a very azaming speed. That's said, / blogspot is still the darling to some bloggers especially for its javascript-enable policy. Making it a chance for blogger to monetize it.

For those stylish blogger, however, the problem lies on its limited and archaic by-default templates. And that has, fortunately, motivated some templates designers to create various new blogger / blogspot template to use for free. Here's the links of free blogger templates for you to download. October 27 as National Blogger Day

October 27 as National Blogger Day in IndonesiaCould you believe it. The most breathtaking result of the Pesta Blogger 2007 (Indonesia Blogger Party 2007) which was held yesterday and presided over by Minister of Information and Communication, Mr. Mohammad Nuh, is the official announcement by the Minister himself that 27 October 2007 will be remembered and celebrated each year as the Blogger Day. Probably the first in the whole world! :)

Big success and I am so thrilled to hear this. Congratulations to Ong Hock Chuan and Maverick in particular and to all great guys involved in the great event especially the congenial Hanny and Enda. More about this later (in particular, about my inability to attend the i-must-come event).

Update: Adhi Kusumaputra, a blogger-journalist, wrote a good report on this.

Bomb Blast Malegaon Mumbai India

Last night I watched England-Pakistan cricket match and US Open semi-final randomly and was not aware that at about 21.00 Indian time, there's a breaking news on local tv about another bomb blast, another terrorist attack struck Malegaon, 260 km (160 miles) northeast of Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India. The blast this time coincides with one of Indian Muslim holy day and took place at a mosque, the first of its kind in India. The blast has caused 38 dead and many injured.

Who Did it

Because of its distinctive time and place, many speculations being made about who carried out this attack. Some analyst fingers point to anti-Muslim entities like Hindutva, a Hindu ultra-nationalist movement which want to drive all non-Hindu entities out of this country.

Some more wisdom voices conclude in a vague way that this kind of terror must've been perpetrated by those who want to see India divided. And what tools of division are more efficient than everything with religious flavour?

My heartfelt goes to those victims and their family. All Indian, Muslim-Christian-Hindus-Buddhist, should unite in dealing with and overcoming this kind of evil effort to divide their country. Make sure that those evil element do not and will not succeed in dividing you on religious line. Make sure that you all are in unison to combat terrorism and evil element in any community WITHIN yourself. And set your mind that angel and devil are there in every community and it's the duty of all of us to go against it.
