Suspected 9/11 mastermind offer to confess

From AFP:

The self-professed architect of the September 11 attacks Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four co-defendants on Monday said they would confess to terror charges that could bring the death penalty but postponed their guilty pleas.

Sheikh Mohammed, captured in Pakistan in 2003 and handed over to US agents who held him in secret prisons for more than three years before sending him to the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, is known to have been subjected to harsh treatment by the CIA, including "waterboarding," or simulated drowning, leading to controversy about the admissibility of his reported confession.

Idul Adha 2008 / 1429

Most Muslims in Indonesia will hold Idul Adha prayer on Monday 8 December 2008 AD/ 10 Dzulhijjah 1429 AH (Hijriyah). Some, however, celebrate Idul Adha (Eid ul Adha, Eid al Adha) one day earlier like those Muslims in West Sumatra:

At least 3,000 Jamaah Thariqat Naqsabandiyah members in West Sumatra celebrated Idul Adha on Saturday, two days earlier than the day decided by government in consultation with most Muslim groups.

"In our calculating, at most there are 30 days in a month. Meanwhile, there are other groups that calculate one month up to 31 days. So, every year we celebrate Idul Adha earlier than other groups," said Munir, 70, the caretaker of Surau Baru mosque.

He added that the group also started the fasting month and celebrated Idul Fitri two days earlier every year.

Whenever you celebrate it, today or tomorrow, I wish you a happy Idul Adha. Make it a momentum towards a better life in its broadest meaning of the term.

Supreme Court declines to hear challenge to Obama's citizenship

A relief for Obama and fans:

The Supreme Court has decided not to hear a lawsuit challenging Barack Obama’s citizenship.

... The suit, filed by Leo Donofrio of East Brunswick, N.J., charged that Obama is not a natural born U.S. citizen.

Now, he’s not one of those tinfoil-hat wearing people who claim Obama was born in Indonesia. He acknowledges that the President-elect was born in Hawaii.

Then what’s all the confusion? As far as we can tell, Hawaii was still admitted to the Union in 1959. And Barack Obama was born in 1961 (in Hawaii). Sure, we’re not rocket scientists here at The Vote (although some people think we think Germany bombed Pearl Harbor), but it seems kosher to us.

AFF Cup: Indonesia Into Last Four

A glimmer of hope as far as Indonesia football team goes:

Striker Budi Sudarsono blasted a hattrick against Cambodia tonight at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium to sensationally send hosts Indonesia into the semifinals of the AFF Suzuki Cup. Indonesia's second straight win today, a convincing 4-0 victory over Cambodia, has set the stage for a thrilling battle against defending champions Singapore to determine the Group A champion.

Despite winning tonight, Indonesia are second in the group behind Singapore on an inferior goal difference. Emerging the group winner is crucial as it means the likelihood of avoiding Thailand, the other pre-tournament favourites, in the semifinals. The group champs will also have the privelege of playing the first semifinal tie away and the return leg at home.

Anyone want to put one's money for Indonesia to be in the finale and win the cup?

Campaign Promises on Ending the War in Iraq Now Muted by Reality

US President-elect Obama's statement below to left tens of thousands of American troops in Iraq should not worry Liberal or Progressive segment of American society. All US troops will be leaving Iraq willy-nilly. Iraq is not Japan nor Korea. Americans are regarded as colonisers, not liberators as some Americans believe-- and are not welcomed by majority of Iraqis. Keeping troops in Iraq for a long time just will make extremist recruitment grows faster and bigger .

President-elect Obama is making clearer than ever that tens of thousands of American troops will be left behind in Iraq, even if he can make good on his campaign promise to pull all combat forces out within 16 months.

Wordpress 2.7 already in Admin Dasboard

If you have a self-hosted wordpress blog and got tempted to upgrade into Wordpress 2.7, see the "screenshot" at your blog. If you don't have account yet, create it here. Ryan Boren said that wordpress 2.7 is running on starting on 4 December 2008.

I've just opened my blog few hours ago and yes a whole new look in the admin dashboard. Unfortunately, my wish list of wp 2.7 on widgets didn't come true. The widgets I dislike is still there. Here's what I said in the wish list:

I wish the return of “old-days” two sidebars admin that sitting together (see pic. 1). One of the disturbing feature of wp 2.5+ and 2.6+ is you cannot see two sidebars (if you use two sidebar theme) at the same time (see pic 2). Consequently, you cannot drag one widget in Sidebar 1 into Sidebar 2 smoothly. Instead, you need to click “remove” a particular widget in Sidebar 1, and try to find the removed widget in Sidebar 2 (after clicking “show Sidebar 2?). Very unnecessarily complicated. And such a waste of time.

So, I may not upgrade this blog into wp 2.7.

Windows on a Mac Why Not?

A technology with the user-unfriendly name of virtualization provides a much better answer. New versions of two very good products, Parallels Desktop for Macintosh 4.0 and VMware Fusion 2.0 (both $80), let you run Windows programs on a Mac so that they look almost exactly like OS X programs and behave that way, too.

To use Parallels and Fusion, which require less technical proficiency than earlier versions, you need a fairly recent Mac and a copy of Windows. Once you have installed the software, you follow the on-screen instructions to set up a Windows "virtual machine." Then you install the Windows programs you need, and you're good to go. Full Story.
