Facebook and Twitter for what?

the invention of the internet, what sub-invention that attracts me to engage in an online activity is one and only: blogging. The reason is clear: (a) it offers tremendous chance and opportunity for everyone to spread out one's idea through writing to a lot wider audience without any need to sweat it out. (b) It offers a level-playing field for everyone to publish one's idea without any barrier of, say, cost and patron. Like what happens in conventional publishing tools.[1]

Blogging i.e. writing, both in free blog providers or in self-hosted blog, is therefore the most important online activity for me. Other internet invention such social networking as Friendster and Facebook and many others are ok so far as these tools support my blogging activities in terms of traffic and blog visibility.

I have Facebook account which main purpose is to drive traffic to my blog by using "imported note" and "feed aggregator" application and some other apps available. Once the applications installed in my Facebook, I'll let it run its own course. I barely login to my Facebook account eversince. So, if you talk to me through my Facebook's wall, forgive me if I hardly respond.

I also join almost all free online services such as Mybloglog, Blogcatalog, Twitter, any blog aggregators, you name it I've been there. The purpose: to drive more blog traffic. No more no less.

What's your joining Facebook for?

But many people are joining Facebook for many different reasons some are (could be) as follows:

Obamania: many western analysts attribute Obama's stunning victory to Facebook. Some even call him the Facebook president. Naturally, any success story will reap fans who will faithfully follow suit. As far as Indonesian is concerned, Obamania in facebook are those would be politicians (caleg or MP candidate) who think they can follow Obama's path.
Friendster diehard alumni: as Facebook widely regarded as more sophisticated a social networking tools than Friendster it's natural if Friendster users feel they have graduated from Friendster and needs to go to another level, say PhD level, that is Facebook.
Pure trend followers: Many people do something because it's done by many others. Many making Facebook account simply because they dont want to be lagged behind. They just dont want to be called outdated. These people just don't have a clue what they are doing at least the first time they did it.
Just to drive traffic to their blog. I am in this category.
To keep in touch with friends and families (Anita, see her comment below).
To find long lost friend (Edia Permata, see her comment below).
Or you tell me (in the comment box) if you're not among these four.

Note:

[1] You need a good relation, apart from a good content, with publisher to publish a book. You need to have a patron inside a print media in order to make your op-ed piece easily get published. This is not always the case, but your piece will have a bigger chance to get published if you have a personal relation with editors of a particular conventional media, both newspapers and magazines.

Twitter for what?

What do you use Twitter for? Asks guardian.co.uk. Many interesting responses outthere. So far as I am concerned, I barely use twitter manually. I use it automatically as a way to add my blogs traffics.

Blogroll New Rules in FatihSyuhud.Com

There's a new blogroll 'agreement'. Make sure those who join the blogroll network with this blog read it.

Some important points:

(a) it’s put on the frontpage i.e. on the sidebar, header or footer; NOT in the sub-page or posting; ... (c) it should be a live-link, a dead link such as blogroll in pull-down is not considered as a blogroll. To keep your blogroll space small, consider using drop-down or marquee, a link from both methods is a live link and will get a backlink; (d) it’s NOT a commercial blog (i.e. blog about beasiswa scholarship, lowongan kerja job vacancy, pay to post/review, etc); (e) it’s not porn related blog; (f) You’re not installing anything from rankwidget.com or pop-up ads

Your blog link will be removed if (a) you’re found removing fatihsyuhud.com link from your blog or moving fatihsyuhud.com link into a subpage or a post; (b) your blog is no longer active (no new post) in more than two months.

New Indonesia Blog Aggregator

Bacablog.com is a brand new blog aggregator in Indonesia. You may try to submit your blog there to increase your traffic and move to another level of visibility.

My advice to its owner, be prepared to have a dedicated server. A blog aggregator with shared hosting will not live long. Why blog-indonesia.com still live well 'till now because it's run on a dedicated server.

If you're not prepared for this traffic rush, then wait for the time when you have to close it down for "bandwith deprivation."

Protecting Your Blog's Content

Google Adsense gives a tips how to protect your content in case it's copied and pasted by other website(s). Especially if the duplicate website monetizes it with AdSense:

... After publishing it, you notice that another website has copied and published your article without your permission. The owner of the other website doesn't respond to your requests to remove the content, and it is monetizing their pages with AdSense.

In a situation like this, where you believe that a site containing AdSense code is illegally copying your site's content, you can let us know by following the process described in our Help Center. It's our policy to respond to notices of alleged infringement that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and other applicable intellectual property laws.

Note that "the notice should be sent directly from the owner of the copyrighted materials allegedly being infringed (in the example above, that's you), as we are unable to accept third-party copyright complaints."

Besides, you may report that copyrighted content theft by filling out this form. The reported website if proven guilty will be deindexed by Google which is the worst nightmare for any webmaster / blogmaster.

Bottom line is try to write your own content, make your blog content unique and original. If you have to copy some of other website content, make sure you mention the source and the link. Give credits where it's due.

Meanwhile, there are some content in internet which are available to be published by anyone such as job vacancy, scholarships, beasiswa, etc. Unless otherwise noted, you may republish them in your blog without any need for permission from the original sources.
